How Bubble Joy Brought Personality to a Branding Project

Opening the Project with a Fresh Font Choice

When I first opened the blank brand board for a new client—a small, independent café looking to refresh their visual identity—I knew the font choice would set the tone. The brief called for something warm, approachable, and just a little playful. That’s when I reached for Bubble Joy, a cute and adorable display font I’d recently added to my font library. It wasn’t the most expected choice for a café brand, but it had a charm that felt worth exploring.

Testing the Font in the Logo Design

I started with the logo. Bubble Joy’s rounded, bouncy letterforms immediately gave the design a soft, friendly energy. It worked well with the client’s idea of a cozy neighborhood spot that serves not just coffee but conversation and comfort. I used it for the main logotype, adjusting the spacing and testing different case treatments. The lowercase version felt more casual and inviting, while uppercase gave it a bit more presence without losing its charm.

Using Bubble Joy Across Brand Materials

Once the logo was approved, I began applying Bubble Joy across the brand system. It became the primary typeface for packaging design—think takeaway cups, custom stickers, and menu cards. The font’s rounded edges and soft curves made it perfect for packaging that needed to feel handmade and personal. On small labels, it held up surprisingly well, especially when used at a slightly larger size to maintain readability.

For printed marketing materials like flyers and thank-you cards, Bubble Joy added a sense of warmth and personality. I used it sparingly in editorial design pieces like a small in-store zine the café wanted to produce, always pairing it with a clean sans serif for body text. This helped maintain visual hierarchy while keeping the overall design cohesive and easy to read.

Bringing the Brand Online

The client also wanted a consistent presence on social media and a simple, modern website. Bubble Joy translated well into digital templates, especially for Instagram stories and homepage headers. I made sure to use it only for short-form text—like call-to-action buttons or hero headlines—since display fonts like Bubble Joy are best used for impact rather than long paragraphs.

In web design, I paired it with a minimalist sans serif for navigation and body content. This contrast helped guide the user’s eye and gave the site a balanced, modern typography feel. The font’s bold style worked well in hero sections, while a lighter version was effective in smaller banners and quote graphics.

Practical Design Observations

One of the first things I noticed while working with Bubble Joy was how it affected brand perception. It gave the café a distinct personality—approachable, youthful, and creative. This was exactly what the client wanted. It’s not a font that blends into the background; it’s meant to stand out and create a visual impression.

However, I also learned to be selective about where and how to use it. At smaller sizes or in long blocks of text, it started to lose clarity. So I reserved it for headlines, logos, and accent text. When designing business cards or shop signs, I made sure to test the font at actual print sizes to ensure legibility.

Pairing Bubble Joy with Other Fonts

Font pairing was another important part of the design process. Bubble Joy is a display font with a strong personality, so I needed a supporting typeface that could balance it out. I went with a classic serif for some print pieces to create contrast and sophistication, while a modern sans serif worked better for digital use. The key was to let Bubble Joy shine in headlines and accents while keeping the rest of the typography clean and functional.

What to Check Before Using Bubble Joy in Client Work

If you’re considering Bubble Joy for your next branding or packaging design, here are a few practical tips based on my experience:

Final Thoughts on Bubble Joy

Bubble Joy may seem like a small detail in the grand scheme of a brand identity project, but it ended up being one of the most impactful choices. It gave the café’s visual identity a clear emotional tone—something that resonated with their audience and made their brand feel more human. Whether you’re working on a logo design, packaging design, social media graphics, or product-based branding, Bubble Joy is a versatile and expressive font that deserves a spot in your toolkit.

If you’re a graphic designer, freelancer, or small business owner looking to inject some warmth and creativity into your next design project, give Bubble Joy a try. Just remember to pair it wisely, test it thoroughly, and use it where it can truly shine as a display font with personality.
